“AND NOW IT’S TIME TO…” Obama Report Card Part One

The honeymoon is over. It is now time for you and me to grade our President’s work as the leader of the “free” world.

I will post more thoughts after I get some comments.

C’mon people, let’s do this. We have the power. In France the people protest in the streets all the time. They have a national health service. They are not fighting any wars and building billion dollar aircraft carriers. Their government fears and thusly, respects the people’s strength.

We haven’t allowed Japan to have a standing army since 1945. As a result, we have to protect them!!! Are they the 51st state and no one told me? Man, it’s time to come together here don’cha think? I do…

You can say whatever you wish. Be honest. Be funny. Be brutal. Be a fan. I don’t care. Just write me. Please don’t email these comments. Use the comment section. It’s easy. This way, everyone can get together in a forum type debate. Here’s how I learned to do it:

Under every article, music or video post is the title of the post and the date of the post. Click on (0) comments (can be any number)

This takes you to the “comment” page. You will see a box on the top right. Write your comment in the box. You will scroll down and see “NAME URL”. You enter your email address here AND WEBSITE HERE, Or just click on “ANONYMOUS”

Now click on “PREVIEW YOUR COMMENT.”
Do you like what you wrote? Good. If not click on “EDIT” and fix it. Then just click on “PUBLISH YOUR COMMENT” and you are done.

Well, I think being permanently based on Japan still isn't all that bad an idea. China, Korea, SE Asia...it keeps us close to areas we may need to engage (for one reason or another). Tangentially, Japan provides A LOT of military jobs.

I worry about his Mideast policies more than Asia. I think his goals are noble, but is Iran REALLY interested in peaceful nuclear facilities?

It is still too early to tell for me to rate the President. Ask me in January 2010! As for now, he has carte blanche in my book!

I read your new post, and I think the new way you're going with the site is right on the money. I can't speak for everyone, but I like it when blogs either:
1) Turn me on to new ideas, books, music, etc.. that the blogger discovers or wants to share.
2) Daily thoughts, opinions or ideas of what whats on your mind. Whether they are polarizing or not, the best thing is it makes me think. And react. I agree with you that more discourse between people is better all around.

From what I've seen so far, you've been doing everything right, so kudos! It definitely raised my interest in things. If you'd like, check out the blog from this guy Brad Warner. He was in some Midwest punk/garage bands in the early 80's called Zero Defex and Dimentia 13. Whether or not you are into Buddhist ideals, you seem to be pretty openminded and I think you'll like it and maybe even get some ideas? Its a pretty interesting site.

Anywho, that's enough yammering from me, haha. Good luck with the forum/blog and I look forward to how things progress. Its looking great! Have an excellent weekend, Dennis.

Cheers!

"Leave a comment, dammit!"- That's good! Love it. Maybe I should try that on my Myspace...haha
Hope you're having a killer weekend, Dennis! On my way out to (FINALLY) buy my first MC5 disc...about time, eh?

I agree with the commenter who said it's probably too early to "rate the record," but as an early Obama supporter, I'm probably quite biased in his favor.

I will say this, however. It may be too early to rate him on policies and plans, but he's done a great job in restoring optimism in this country, as well as improving our image in the rest of the world. I haven't seen things in such dire straits since the 70's, but the majority feel that things will improve eventually. It would seem that now would be a perfect time for despair, and there definitely are some who are, but I don't sense that it is overwhelming.

Personally, I hope he totally kicks ass as President, and manages to shut up his naysayers once and for all. I'm talking about YOU, Rush Limbaugh! Haha!

So Japan provides a lot of military jobs. Hmm... the notorious and infamous "military-industrial complex". In the mean time, General Motors and Chrysler are going under, Detroit is becoming a ghost town bereft of any vestiges of its former glory, people are losing their homes and can't afford basic health care, school districts are laying off teachers, and the dignity of the working classes has been trampled upon. Yehey, the U.S. is beginning to pullout troops from Irag! But more troops are being deployed to Afghanistan... It's the same old song and dance my friends! Maybe you had to be there in 1968 to fully appreciate the import of the events of 2009. Perhaps one solution is to turn all the amps to 10!

So far, I think he's on the right track, but it's too early to tell, really, where the chips are going to fall.

One major thing Obama has accomplished, in my opinion, is to bring up the opinion of Americans, not only in the rest of the world, but here at home. This may just come down to him being a hell of a lot more likeable than W was, but fuck, I'll take it.

From a European perspective all my Buddies and I are rooting for Obama and broadly we like what we see so far. It's nice to have an intelligent and articulate man in the top job on the planet.

PS Dennis thank you very much for signing the photo and thanks to Kim for being so helpful is sorting it all out.

Nuzz Prowlin' Wolf June 7, 2009 11:55 AM

Early days, but he seems to be making the right noises re: middle east, but thats a big old situation to sort out on so many levels, but he has advantages over previous presies ie being intelligent and articulate,as well as an understanding of identity politics. The bottom line is whatever he does has gotta be better than what that last one did when running the 'free world'

I think Detroit is in ruins because Ford, and other US automakers ignored reality for way too long, and I dont see the military having much to do with that. While Toyota and Honda were making smaller/better vehicles, US automakers continued to put out subpar, uneconomical monstrosities. Then the people that could actually afford them bitch and moan when gas goes up...but that's another story! I don't see our presence in Japan having any effect on jobs INSIDE the US.

I think Obama is handling the auto industry very well.

As for excise taxes, they would work both ways, wouldn't they? So we could ping them, but they could do the same? I dunno. World trade policy ain't my thing!!

Machinegun June 9, 2009 6:37 AM

DEAR MJG16,
I AM GOING TO HAVE TO WRITE A POST JUST FOR YOU TO PUT US ON THE SAME PAGE. WHERE DO YOU LIVE? HOW OLD ARE YOU? YOU CAN USE THE EMAIL WAY OF TELLING ME. OKAY?
