MC5 WANTED TO BE THE BEST ROCK N ROLL BAND!

My favorite MC5 Record was the first record that we produced ourselves. We had a producer who was a "stable" producer for Atlantic, Geoff Haslam. He had an English background, so we recorded a couple of tunes in England. We were touring; at that point in time in our careers, we were spending a lot of time in Europe. And we did, I believe, "Sister Anne" and...two tunes in Europe.
But Geoff would sort of work with us and not tell us what to do, and let us sit behind the board and play with the dials and the mix, and let the whole group sort of work at it together, and then when it came down to a mix-down, we all would defer to Fred...let Fred and Wayne and Jeff do the mix. And finally we came up with a product that should have been released as our first one, 'cause that's pretty much how we played when the band started. MGT interview with Ken Shimamoto
The 5 hated The Vietnam War and Police Oppression but their music was everything.... The Politics of this country were changed forever BY THE MUSIC OF THE MC5
Our Vietnam was here. Our brothers, cousins, best friends went to this crazy ass war in the 'Nam for no, absolutely no reason. It was insane. We in the Five remained in the U.S.A. and played the music. Now, we got to meet a lot of vets. And a lot of kids would come up to us all over the country crying their eyes out, saying "I just got my notice from the draft and I don't wanna die. What can I do?" And we'd tell them from the benefit of our experience,
Essentially. And we started losing a lot of friends at that point in time and the reason that we would say, that anyone would say that we were like Vietnam vets is that we were veterans of Vietnam, but we were here on the home front, defending the right of America to say, "No, this has to stop." MGT
So you've now you have Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana, Pearl Jam; y'know, the cross hairs sorta center on whatever you hear...these musicians are aware of the Five. Which makes me very, very proud. MGT

"Hey is that Iggy at 1:37???"
"Molto fantastico!!!!!! ;-)"
"Yeah, I can hear the Five in a lot of music. I think a lot of punk bands incorporated the MC5's music. The influence was historic as was the meteoric rise and fall of the originals. Love it all. Are you Wayne and Michael going to be touring anytime soon?"
"Wanted to be? Shit MGT, you guys earned your place on Mt Olympus, and I don't even say that so much about the music.
You guys defied the static and insanity of the time with your art, and your belief in change. You lit a fire in Detroit (No joke intended), and it burned, and still burns in many of us.
We need to kick out the jams now more than ever before.
Thanks for throwing that first match."
"I was born in the late 60s, so most of my Vietnam memories are from news clips. I'm so glad my son was not born into a war-time draft era. What a horrifying time to be stuck in the middle of as a young man.
I discovered the MC5 in Jr High in the late 70s... our cafeteria used to play the local radio station's "Electric Lunch" and the MC5 became one of my absolute favorites. One of my lifetime highlights was getting to see DKT-MC5 in Seattle with all of our local guys helping out a few years back, and getting to meet you guys after the show. I was such a dorky 40-year old fan! I felt like I was 15 meeting the Beatles! :-)
I would've LOVED to have seen you with Rob and Fred, but the show was truly one of the best I've ever been to (and I've been to a lot!!). Thank you so much for getting back together and rocking with us!!!!!! I really hope you do it again sometime soon!!!!!!!! xoxoxo"

"Seems like yesterday I was at the Grande watching the 5.....those days are my best memories.......saw them one night at Weslow Hall in Riverview (Downriver) & because they wouldn't stop using MF'er the Hall people pulled the plug on the gig.....imagine the reaction from all of us stoned souls...Peace Out! "
"Don't have to convince any of us...I am still reverbing...maybe I could have been "Normal"..but the MC-5 and the Stooges sorta changed that !"
"40+ years later , the 5's fury is still burning !!
From absolutely stunning versions of Motown tunes , to outrageous originals , to incorporating Free Form Jazz into a Rock setting ... damn it !
" They're all burning ! They're all burning ! ""
I bought all the MC5 records when they were released!
"MC-5 can only do RIGHT !!! ..."
